When a tile is in two lines, you score it for both lines when counting up your points that turn. This is the best way to maximize your points, since those lines add up for your point total that turn! In order to add to existing lines on the table, you have to be able to match either the color or the shape of the other tiles in that line without duplicating one of the tiles.
